Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been dropped from a group seeking to buy the St. Louis Rams. Now to be honest, I'm not so sure that this is a good thing. Yes, I think Rush Limbaugh's an idiot, but to my knowledge there's still no law preventing idiots from owning sports teams. Take the NFL's Al Davis for example. He should have sold out years ago, but instead he's taken the Raiders down a horribly dark blunderous road. But does that mean that public opinion has the right to deny a persons ownership?
Before the day of corporate ownership and ownership groups, sports teams had many colorful personal owners. The first that comes to mind is MLB's Bill Veeck. He created many a publicity stunt, including sending a midget to bat ( angering MLB owners so much they created an anti-midget law in the MLB). Many claimed that Veeck should go, and away he went, on to owning 4 different teams at various times. In fact we can go back in time in every major sport and find at one time or another they were owned by a flambouant owner. Even poltitiians, like former President George W. Bush (the Texas Rangers), has owned teams.
So, would Rush Limbaugh be a big arrogant loud mouth owner, like he is on the radio? Probably so, but does that mean that public out cry has the right to take that ownership possibility away? 10/15/09

y public opinion, but the other NFL owners that have the power to deny ownership. A "distracti on" is an understate ment referring to Limbaugh. I've never seen so many Rush Limbaugh haters speak out. Nothing wrong with that. So why should so many fans have to put up with him? Outsice his echo chamber, he's not so well liked.
I can't think of a single NFL owner who is as abrasive. It's private enterprise
, not a public entity. There is no 'right to buy' a private business. It's between a buyer and a seller, or partners.
