Todays blog is not only written with a heavy heart, but a heavy head also. Last night I got together with a few close friends. Of course the topic was the recent deaths of many celebrities. While conversing at our favorite pub, the thought came to us that we should salute the passing of these fine folks with a shot. But these we're great celebrities in their own right, so one shot wouldn't cover them all. Then the brilliant idea struck, a shot for each of them! What sounded sensible at the time, seeing we had already had a few drinks, turned into a bad idea................ It started out innocent enough. First to David Carradine, a kamikaze. Then we paid tribute to Ed McMahon with a shot of Irish Whiskey. Of course Farrah Fawcette was toasted with a Sex On The Beach. For some reason Michael Jackson was cheered with a 'TIMMY', not necessarily in any bartending guide, but it's a house speciality at the bar we go. And by the time the bartender figured out what we were doing, he wanted in! Next came Billy Mays, who we respected with a woo-woo. Don't ask me why, we just figured the whole time he was pitching a product on TV, he came off as WOO-WOO!..........................Any sensible people would have probably stopped there, but me and my friends are different. We then chose to start paying our respects to ANYONE we could think of who died. And let me tell you, we came up with pleanty! *** I want to put a disclaimer here right now. At this point we made the sobering decision that NONE OF US WERE DRIVING!**** One friend started with George Carlin, and we saluted with Jeager Bomb. I brought up my favorite author, Hunter S. Thompson. We all like the good Doctor, and decided he deserved a double Mind Eraser ( Boy, dose that name fit that drink)! Other friend picked their favorite dead celebs. and we paid them all their due...............................Now, I really don't recomend paying tribute to those who have passed in this manner. My head feels like a three ton cement block today. And I've visited the 'porcelain god' more times than I can count today. But we all have our way of grieving. My friends and I have ours, and I'm sure you have yours. With the recent deaths of these people though, it can remind you of one thing, your OWN mortalitry. So take advantage of what you have today, and LIVE!!! 6/29/09
